No novo filme da franquia, um exército de combatentes é criado a partir da nanotecnologia Extremis. Diante dessa nova ameaça, o Homem de Ferro terá que lidar com o vilão Mandarin (Ben Kingsley), um poderoso inimigo que controlará os esforços do geneticista Aldrich Killian (Guy Pearce) para criar um exército com a nova tecnologia.
No elenco temos os retronos de Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, Scarlett Johansson e Jon Favreau, e tem as adições de Paul Bettany, Rebecca Hall, Cobie Smulders,Wang Xueqi e William Sadler.
