Na suposta sinopse de ‘Os Vingadores‘, a história começa logo após o final de ‘Thor‘, quando o meio-irmão do herói, Loki, decide destruir a superequipe de Nick Fury. Para ter força suficiente para destruí-los, Loki contará com o auxílio do Cubo Cósmico – artefato central da trama de ‘Capitão América‘. Loki usará o Cubo para comandar uma força alienígena invasora em um ataque ao planeta Terra: os Skrulls.
